Tonight we were very grateful to have Scott Hamilton of the Adam Hamilton Foundation speak to the young men and women at Akron North High School. Scott could not emphasize enough the lessons he learned from his son: how important it is to care about the person to your right and to your left, to put others before yourself and to give back. We will let Scott’s story speak for itself.
Scott’s son, US Army Specialist Adam S. Hamilton, a native of Kent, Ohio, graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 2007. While in school, Adam was an All-American lacrosse player, the hockey career-goals record holder and played linebacker/wide receiver on the state-playoff football team.
Adam joined the US Army in 2009, graduated basic and advanced training and was proud to be a Cav scout of the 4th Squadron, 4th Cavalry, 1st Brigade Combat Team in the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas. He was deployed to Afghanistan in February 2011.
On Memorial Day, May 28th, 2011, Adam died of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device (IED) during a night mission in Haji Ruf, Afghanistan, at the age of 22. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal.
The Adam S. Hamilton Memorial Academic & Athletic Scholarship Fund was established to help carry on Adam’s legacy of service to the community. Each year, two $10,000 scholarships are awarded to worthy Roosevelt High School seniors who have shown leadership in the classroom, on the playing fields and in the community. In addition to maintaining a 3.0 GPA and lettering in two sports.
The “HAMMY” workout and 5k are hosted every May at Kent State University benefitting the Adam Hamilton Foundation and continuing Adam’s legacy of service and selflessness. Visit TheHAMMY.org for more information and considering joining us this May to help continue Adam Hamilton’s legacy.
Nowadays, Memorial Day carries a whole new weight and meaning for Scott. We hope it does for you too. Thank you again, Scott, for taking the time out of your schedule to share your story!

Akron North: Jim Conlon
We were very fortunate to have our own Jim Conlon speak to the young men and women at Akron North High School tonight.
Jim comes from a very humble background and had some great words of wisdom to share with the kids. From growing up with next to nothing to graduating from law school, Jim knows first hand that things can change, but you must be the catalyst for change. You have to work hard. You have to earn it.
Jim also reminded us that life is a team game. The football team cannot score unless the offensive line blocks, the quarterback throws the pass and the receiver catches it running into the end zone. We cannot do it on our own. We all need to work together to be successful. Each of us has the responsibility to do our part and be the best we can be. Make sure you do your part!
Thank you, Jim, for taking the time out of your schedule to share your story!
Your generosity continues to give young men and women in the community a better opportunity to succeed in the classroom and outside of the classroom. 100% of all the donations we receive at FullyEquipped.co/Donate go to helping those in need! Do you know an underfunded school program in need? Submit a Request for Assistance at FullyEquipped.co/Request and we will see what we can do to help! Akron North: NFL Veteran Mark Murphy
To kickoff our spring program at Akron North High School tonight, we were extremely fortunate to provide a meal and have 12 year NFL veteran and Green Bay Packers Hall of Famer, Mark Murphy, speak to the kids.
From growing up with alopecia, getting bullied and being involved in a lot fights to working hard, persevering, and signing as a free agent with the Green Bay Packers, Mark had a lot of wisdom to share. The interactive examples he used to teach important lessons were extremely valuable.
While speaking Mark asked JJ Banks, an Akron North student and football player, if he would grab a napkin off of the table in the back for him. JJ stood up, walked to the back, grabbed a napkin and then walked up to the front to hand it to Mr. Murphy.
Mark then proceeded to lay a $20 bill on the podium in front of him. He told JJ that if he could get him another napkin within 5 seconds he would give him the $20. What do you think happened? JJ proceeded to jump up, run to a grab a napkin and run it to the front to Mr. Murphy.
“What motivates you? What drives you? What makes you want to work harder?” Mark continued. (and yes he gave JJ the $20) Mark wanted to teach the kids about motivation. He wants them to find what motivates in them to succeed, whether that is in the classroom, extracurricular activities or life.
“Even greater than motivation is discipline. Discipline is doing the things that you don’t want to do.” Mark continued to explained. “Whether that is studying for a test you have to take tomorrow while your friends party or shooting 50 more jump shots after practice when everyone else wants to go home.” Mark told the kids that if they can learn discipline they will undoubtedly be successful.
Thank you so much Mark for taking the time out of your schedule to teach and impart wisdom on the young men and women at Akron North High School. In the words of Mr. Murphy always remember that, “There are two things you control in life: your attitude and your effort.”

Buchtel Wrestling Gear: Thank you, D.A.L.E. Program!
Recently it was brought to our team’s attention that the Buchtel High School wrestling team does not receive a budget because they are the only Akron city school with a wrestling team. This year Buchtel had more wrestlers come out for the team than usual. Between the junior high and high school teams, nearly ten kids were wrestling in socks at practice and several kids were sharing headgear. In order to fulfill the need, we were looking to provide wrestling headgear and wrestling shoes for the team.
Thanks to the generousity of the D.A.L.E. (Discipline Athletics Leadership Education) program we were able to make that possible! The D.A.L.E Program’s mission is to help empower youth through discipline, athletics, leadership, and education. FullyEquipped is proud to partner with such a mission! If you would like to learn more about the D.A.L.E. program check out their Instagram or their recent article in the Akron Beacon Journal.

Akron North: Principal Kim Sabbeta
Tonight we were very fortunate and thankful to have Akron North alum and current Akron North High School Principal, Kim Sabetta, speak to the football team.
As Principal Sabetta began to speak, she started to pass out dry erase markers. She told the players to write down accomplishments they have achieved so far this season, no matter how small or broad. Some of the accomplishments listed by the players include: learning to persevere, being coachable, never giving up and learning teamwork through cooperation.
As football nears the end of the regular season, Principal Sabetta reiterated to the players how proud she was of their accomplishments, the commitment they have made all season and the hard work they have put in. Principal Sabetta left us with two simple reminders and notes of encouragement: dream big and never give up.
Thank you so much, Principal Sabetta, for taking the time after your busy school day to encourage, teach and impart wisdom to these young men.
As FullyEquipped continues to grow and evolve, the donations we receive are helping shape the lives young men and women in the community and equip them with the tools they need to succeed in the classroom, extracurricular activities, and life. Help make a difference today and donate at FullyEquipped.co/Donate.
God Bless,
The FullyEquipped Team
